04 / Functional Safety

Keep proof-test actions connected to the safety function.

Structure the records, responsibilities and follow-up around your safety instrumented functions. We help define a specialist-supported programme for test preparation, deviation management and documented closure.

The challenge

When the records
and the work drift apart.

Test procedures, field results, deviations and maintenance actions need to remain connected to the safety function they support. We help make those connections explicit and define the specialist input, owner approvals and evidence required before a programme begins.

Typical starting points

01Test results and follow-up actions are stored separately from the function record.

02Outstanding deviations have no agreed specialist review or closure route.

03The next campaign needs clearer procedures, responsibilities and acceptance requirements.

The work

A defined route through
your scope.

01

Define the programme boundary

Agree the function population, available requirements and test records, specialist roles and owner decision points. Confirm delivery capability before committing to the programme.

02

Coordinate test readiness

Help organise approved procedures, responsibilities, operating permissions and the required records with the appointed functional-safety specialists and site team.

03

Make deviations actionable

Connect test deviations to the relevant function and specialist review. Prepare the approved corrective scope and record the operating and acceptance decisions required from the owner.

04

Reconcile closure and records

Bring together accepted test records, corrective work, verification and remaining actions. Prepare an agreed evidence and CMMS handover.

From finding to evidence

Illustrative workflow · not a client case
01

Finding

A test deviation is recorded without a clear link to the follow-up work and acceptance decision.

02

Agreed action

Confirm the function reference, obtain the specialist review and define the corrective-work and retest route.

03

Closure evidence

Accepted test and follow-up records, explicit owner decisions and the updated function record.

Clear responsibilities

Agree the roles
before the work.

Availability and the specialist delivery model are confirmed per assignment. This is not a claim of in-house SIL certification, design verification or independent functional-safety assessment. Test intervals and acceptance criteria follow the approved safety requirements and specialist basis; an annual planning cycle does not set the technical test interval.

How owner decisions are built in

Scope questions

Before we start.

Is a yearly test campaign always the right interval?

No. Scheduling a programme annually does not determine the required interval for each function. The approved safety requirements and competent specialist assessment govern that decision.

Do you provide independent functional-safety assessment?

That role is not implied by this service. Any independent assessment, SIL verification or specialist engineering must be explicitly assigned to an appropriately qualified party.

What is the first step?

A scope discussion to establish the function population, current records, required specialist roles and programme constraints. Capability and responsibilities are confirmed before an offer is made.
